What productivity is not about?
Contrary to popular belief, personal productivity is not about being a slave to your to-do list or sacrificing your well-being for checking off tasks. It’s not about working non-stop or burning the candle at both ends. Moreover, count of done tasks is a bad measurement if we talk about measuring personal productivity.
So, what it is all about?
Personal productivity is all about being efficient and effective in managing your own time and resources to achieve your goals. It’s about being organized, setting priorities, and focusing on the tasks that are most important to you, and that topic we cover in this article.
I hope you see this bold sections, about achieving goals and things that are most important. The biggest illusion that we can make to ourselves is that we check off a lot of tasks every day, but most of them are irrelevant to our life goals. Because what matters is quality, not quantity. The best thing that you can do to boost your productivity is to focus on the Most Important Tasks every day. How do we choose them? Firstly, that tasks should correspond to our Goals, then we have to ask ourselves a simple question, “If this task is the only thing I do today, would I be satisfied with my day?” If yes, then get it and work on it as the first thing you do.
What’s my morning routine?
I start every day with journaling, I take my notebook, write down some notes, my feelings and MIT that mean “Most Important Tasks”. I choose 1-3 tasks that are most important(so that correspond to my long term goals), and if I do only them I’ll be fully satisfied with my day. Then I usually start my day with one of that Most Important Tasks. That way, I’m making small steps every day to be closer to goal accomplish. A side effect of it is that I don’t demand too much from myself, so even if I don’t do all the tasks on my to-do list, I know that I’ve done a good job that day and that I deserved rest.
All for now! Have a nice day and see you soon! Jacob
